66:Old Pepper Distillery Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon

Friday Mar 22, 2024
Welcome to Blue Collar Whiskey Drinkers. On this episode we review Old Pepper Distillery Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon.
"The 'Old Pepper' label was proudly produced by Colonel James E. Pepper during his lifetime and marketed as 'The Oldest and Best Brand of Whiskey made in Kentucky.' Through Col. Pepper's advocacy on behalf of the bourbon industry, it was the first label in Kentucky to be bottled at the distillery, and his invention of the 'signature strip stamp' was later incorporated into the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, assuring consumers of the quality of the whiskey in the bottle. Our label today incorporates historic fonts and designs from the 1880s through the turn of the century, including the signature strip label—once again giving consumers valuable information about where and when the whiskey was made and bottled." Friday Feb 23, 2024
Welcome to Blue Collar Whiskey Drinkers. On this episode we review Duke Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
"The opening is sweet yet subtle charred oak, roast nuts, saddle leather, hints of vanilla, a whiff of nutmeg and a slight hint of pepper with faint hint of treacle toffee and crème caramel. Mid palate provides some pepper spice and earthy balance with a slight hint of charred meats, a deeply satisfying robust sweetness combined with oak. Finishing with a deeply satisfying richness and sweetness in perfect combination.
Meticulously blended to replicate and honor the tasting notes and profile preferred by John Wayne using his original recipe from 1962 and his private collection to guide flavor and aromatics. A proprietorial mash bill of predominately American bent corn with additions of rye with sixth row barley. Distilled and aged in Kentucky the old fashioned way, aged in heavily charred new and hand built American Oak barrels. Aged a minimum of 5 years in barrels hand selected for perfection." Friday Feb 16, 2024
Welcome to Blue Collar Whiskey Drinkers. On this episode we are doing another versus episode, Early Times Bottle-in-Bond vs Kirkland Bottle-in-Bond.
Early Times Bottle-in-Bond: “Early Times Bottled-in-Bond is crafted with pure water, a mash bill composed of 79% corn, 11% rye and 10% malted barley, fermented with a proprietary yeast strain and carefully distilled. DSP No. 354, home of Early Times, is the longest continuously operating distillery under the same ownership in Kentucky. For over 150 years, our traditional practices have delivered great taste. It is matured for a minimum of four years in new charred oak barrels, resulting in a classic, smooth bourbon, rich in taste and character."
Kirkland Bottle-in-Bond: "Kirkland Signature Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is wonderfully balanced. Its subtle notes of candied fruit and honey give way to a pleasant spice, bringing out the true character of the rye. It is rounded out with an oaky, lasting finish that is reminiscent of the aroma of the Kentucky barrel warehouses from which it came."

Wednesday Jan 24, 2024
Welcome to Blue Collar Whiskey Drinkers. On this episode we review Ammunition Straight Rye Whiskey.
"Ammunition Straight Rye Whiskey is a smooth finish 4 years in the making.
This is a blend of 2, 3 and 4 year old Rye Whiskey, finished no less than 3 months in wine barrels which previously held several vintages of Ammunition Sonoma Pinot Noir. This unique process imparts a sweetness and tannin unlike that of any other rye. You can smell it on the nose and see it with your eyes.
This is truly a rye made for those with an adventurous spirit. Be an original.
This whiskey is special. Dark amber in color, you can expect flavors of rich butterscotch and a hint of citrus. The finish is highlighted by subtle notes of baking spice and red berries courtesy of the Pinot Noir French Oak casks.
Special mash bill of 95% Rye and 5% Malted Barley." Ammunition Straight Rye Whiskey

59: High West American Prairie Bourbon Limited Release
Friday Dec 22, 2023
Friday Dec 22, 2023
Welcome to Blue Collar Whiskey Drinkers. On this episode we review High West American Prairie Bourbon Limited Release.
"Distinctive, limited-release, barrel-finished versions of High West whiskey, each of these High West American Prairie Bourbon Barrel Select Whiskey bottles is hand-numbered. Specially selected batches of American Prairie Bourbon aged whiskey are finished in second-use barrels for an additional period of time, ranging from six months to two years, before being bottled. Finishing barrels for this High West whiskey vary from rum or bourbon casks to brandy, gin, scotch, and a variety of wine casks, including Madeira. This secondary barrel-aging process adds a sophisticated layer of complexity and depth of flavor to an American whiskey that is aromatic, rich, and earthy, featuring well-balanced flavors of candy corn, honey nougat, and sweet cornbread biscuits, with a finish of vanilla and caramel apple. Regardless of the pleasantly surprising tasting notes a particular bottle of Barrel Select aged bourbon whiskey provides – perhaps added sweetness or a hint of wine – whiskey connoisseurs can anticipate something special. Bottles are filled at 50% ABV; however, each bottle's final ABV varies by aging period, barrel type, etc., often resulting in a higher-proof whiskey.”

58: Old Forester 1897 Bottled In Bond
Thursday Nov 30, 2023
Thursday Nov 30, 2023
Welcome to Blue Collar Whiskey Drinkers. On this episode we review Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond.
"Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond is crafted to honor a watershed moment in bourbon history – the U.S. Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. This expression follows the Bottled in Bond standards that whisky must be aged in a federally bonded warehouse for at least four years, the product of one distillation season, one distiller and from one distillery and bottled at 100 Proof. The concept behind these regulations – the idea of ‘sealed in quality’ – was something Old Forester introduced in 1870, as America’s First Bottled Bourbon." Old Forester.

Wednesday Sep 27, 2023
Welcome to Blue Collar Whiskey Drinkers. On this episode we review Coopers Craft Barrel Reserve.
"Coopers’ Craft was created to honor the Brown-Forman barrel makers. Since 1945, we have remained the only major distiller to own a new barrel cooperage and raise our own barrels, allowing us complete control of the bourbon-making process from start to finish. Our master coopers rely on a proprietary toasting and barrel-making process to deliver unique and award-winning bourbons ranging from light and gentle to bold and complex. Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve is born from our one-of-a-kind, chiseled and charred American White Oak barrel. This expression is a bold and complex Kentucky bourbon bottled at 100 proof."
